Freedom of Information Policy

It is the policy of the Village of Hoffman Estates to fill all requests for public documents in as timely a fashion as possible.

There is a Freedom of Information Directory available to assist you.

In order to assist you, and have a record of your request, we ask that all requesters complete a Freedom of Information form.

Request can be made by letter, telephone, fax or e-mail.

Most of the time the information, if filed in the Clerk's office, will be produced upon receipt of the request.  In the case of large requests, it may rake a few days to assemble the documents.  The maximum time to produce the information, by law, is seven days.  In very rare cases, you will be notified, in writing, if an extension is needed.

Original documents may be viewed.  Copies are ten cents a page.  Waivers or reduction in fees may be requested, if you qualify.

Not all records are in the Clerk's office.  If located in other departments, they will process your requests that day, but, if voluminous, a day or two at the most.  We all strive for 24 hours of turnaround.

Some information may be denied; this notification will be in writing.  There is an appeals process.  Corporation Counsel will assist you in explaining the appeals process.

Board minutes are available at the following libraries: Palatine (Main), Schaumburg (Main) and Hoffman branch; ordinances are also at the main Schaumburg Library.

The public has a right to information produced by their government with certain privacy limitations (5ILCS 140/1).  It is the policy of the Village to provide assistance in obtaining this information.

The Village of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, is very sensitive to the privacy concerns of the visitors to its site on the Internet.
